Canon shows commitment to graphic arts with largest ever showcase on the Path to Profit

  • More than 2,000sq m of stand space

  • Visitors invited to explore the Path to Profit

  • Complete range of solutions for the graphics arts community

drupa 2008, DUSSELDORF, May 30, 2008 – Canon, world leader in imaging technology solutions, has created its largest ever stand  for drupa 2008. With more than 2,000 sq m devoted to demonstrating its portfolio of complete solutions, the stand has been designed to help customers along the Path to Profit.

With seven distinct zones – including the Print-For-Pay, CRD, Large Format Print, Commercial Production Printing, as well as the Canon Essential Business Builder area – it represents one of the largest demonstrations of Canon’s commitment to the graphic arts industry ever assembled. The layout of the stand enables an interactive and holistic experience for the visitor, in keeping with the Canon ethos of ‘We Speak Image’, whereby it is not solely about products and solutions, but also about growing a business more effectively.

David Preskett, European Marketing Director, Professional Solutions, Canon Europe says: “ With our comprehensive range of imaging solutions on show from Canon and our Alliance Program partners we have assembled a formidable  stand that will help our customers get the right solution to provide value-add services, as well as provide guidance on growing and marketing a business in this competitive climate.”

When it comes to helping printers market themselves more effectively, Canon has launched a range of initiatives. The Insight Report is a project that has been commissioned exclusively by Canon and researched by Rochester Institute of Technology emeritus professor, Frank Romano. The report looks at the trends for printers over the next few years and highlights what they should be doing now and in the future to ensure they adapt, survive and grow.

In addition to The Insight Report, Canon is also launching The Buzzword Buster, a dictionary of print terms that explains and de-mystifies key words and has been created to be a useful book, not just for print buyers, but also for printers –including new entrants – needing a quick refresher into the language of print.

Highlights of the Canon stand include the latest additions to the imagePRESS range, the imagePRESS C6000 and imagePRESS C6000VP. The presses are equipped with several powerful server options, capable of handling complex jobs involving static or variable data.

The imagePRESS C1+, the first colour device with clear toner for the light production market – designed to enhance colour and black-and-white areas when printing – will also be demonstrated. The new device presents a cost effective way of adding value to the print product in print-on-demand environments.

The presses will be demonstrated with powerful front-end workflow options that suit hybrid print environments. Canon’s Alliance Partners will display Heidelberg’s Prinect and Agfa Graphics’ Apogee solutions that can operate digital and conventional offset printrooms using just one workflow system.

Canon’s large format devices have undergone a huge 40% sales growth during 2007 due to an unprecedented roll-out of 11 new products. The business unit continues the momentum at drupa by showing off another two products specifically designed for the 44” CAD sector – the imagePROGRAF iPF810 and iPF820. Scheduled to launch in September, the five-colour dye and pigment printers combine fast output production speeds with efficient ink usage and a low total cost of ownership, making them the most appealing printers in the sector.

Underpinning all these devices is the Canon Essential Business Builder Program, a service that delivers modular training and consultancy for every part of a digital printer’s path to increased profits. Two new modules, looking at variable data printing and Web-to-Print will be demonstrated for the first time at drupa.

Preskett says: “We are showcasing the complete solutions that Canon provides under our maxim of ‘We Speak Image’. For over 70 years we have made it our business to deliver leading edge imaging technologies to our customers. From image capture, manipulation and management to image printing, transmission and sharing, we have a history of pioneering new developments that keep our industry constantly moving. We are proud to show our commitment to the graphic arts market at this event and demonstrate our ever growing investment in products and services to serve our clients and grow their business.”
